A superb fairywren tucks himself into the base of a eucalyptus plant in a blue and white stripe pot, caught in a flood of morning light on a sun-drenched tiled surface. Bathing in the Light is quieter than much of Jess King's work — no gingham, just a classic hamptons vase, no cheeky narrative — just the simple pleasure of a warm patch of light and a fairy wren who found it first. The teal and aqua tones of the background shift and layer like light through glass, while the bold graphic leaves anchor the composition with confidence. Original acrylic on canvas, framed in natural timber. Part of the Found & Collected series. Original acrylic painting in wood float frame, with hooks and wire, ready to hang. Jess King Artist -
Two Fischer's lovebirds bring irreverent charm to a classic still life in this vibrant original oil painting. One perches atop a polished chrome kettle, the other gazing into its own reflection in the gleaming metal — a moment of curiosity and companionship captured against a bold chartreuse green background. Set on a crumpled red and white gingham cloth, Fancy a Cuppa is warm, witty, and full of life. Original oil on canvas, framed in natural timber. Part of the Found & Collected series exploring everyday objects with extraordinary colour and character. -
Two budgerigars huddle together on a vintage blue alarm clock in this tender and joyful oil painting. Their yellow-green plumage pops against the soft cerulean sky, while the blue and white diamond cloth below echoes the clock's cobalt casing. Time stands still — or perhaps it doesn't matter at all — when you're this close to someone. Moments in Time is a celebration of togetherness, rendered in rich oil paint with meticulous detail. Original oil on board, framed. Part of the bird and collected objects series. -
A superb fairywren perches on the rim of a glossy cobalt blue mug, tail cocked, entirely unbothered — while two honeybees orbit the scene with their own agenda. One Lump or Two is a painting about the small, absurd interruptions of a quiet morning. The deep navy of the mug echoes the wren's own iridescent plumage, and the blue and white diamond cloth below ties the whole composition into something cohesive and joyful. Painted on board and framed in a chunky natural timber floater frame, this is a small-format work with real presence. Original oil on board. -
A Fischer's lovebird perches on the rim of a pink "One More Chapter" mug, peering down at a row of illustrated books in bloom — sitting atop a well-loved copy of Pride and Prejudice, on a vintage floral coaster, on a crumpled red cloth. One More Chapter is a painting for anyone who has ever told themselves just one more page and meant it. Warm, witty, and full of detail, it celebrates the quiet pleasure of books, birds, and a good cup of tea. Original oil on canvas, framed in natural timber. Part of the Found & Collected series.

Only One Guess pairs two of Australia’s most beautiful native birds with one of the most recognisable names in fashion. One cockatoo has claimed the crimson Guess bag as its perch, surveying the scene from above. The other stands at eye level on a sweep of pink silk, head tilted, crest raised, looking back at it with what can only be described as knowing. The whole composition is soaked in deep rose and crimson — background, drapery, and birds all folding into one another in a way that feels luxurious and a little wild. The Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo is a bird that earns its drama. That crest — white tipped with bands of red and gold — is one of the most spectacular things nature has produced, and it’s genuinely fun to put it in conversation with the glossy hardware and structured leather of a fashion accessory. There’s a playfulness here, but the painting itself is handled seriously: the feather detail, the leather texture, the zip pull, the way the silk catches light. Every element is observed and rendered with care. This is an original oil on canvas, hand-painted in my Brisbane studio. It arrives framed in a natural timber floating frame, ready to hang. What Makes This Painting Unique
