Jess King — Brisbane Oil Painter, Illustrator & Original Art for Your Home
Hi, I’m Jess, a Brisbane-based visual artist and illustrator who makes original oil paintings, limited edition prints, and children’s wall art for people who want their spaces to feel considered, warm, and alive. My work spans birds and botanicals, quiet still life compositions built from op shop finds and collected objects, and illustration for nurseries and children’s rooms.
Where the Work Comes From
I collect things. Vintage teacups. Old telephones. Objects that have lived a life before they found their way to me. These everyday treasures — picked up at markets, charity shops, and estate sales — are the cast of characters in my Found & Collected series: still life oil paintings that turn overlooked objects into something worth pausing over.
Birds and botanicals share the same spirit. Whether it’s a pair of rosellas perched mid-argument or a cluster of native leaves painted in deep, layered oil, I’m drawn to subjects that reward a second look.
Original Oil Paintings, Prints & Children’s Illustration
I work primarily in oil on board and canvas, building paintings in layers that shift in the light. Each original is a one-of-a-kind piece — once it’s gone, it’s gone. For those who want the look of an original at a more accessible price point, I offer limited edition fine art prints, produced to archival standards in small runs, and open edition prints for everyday collecting.
My children’s illustration work is designed specifically for nurseries and young children’s rooms — playful, warm, and made to grow with a child. Original works and prints in this range make thoughtful gifts for new babies, birthdays, and first homes.
Commissions
I take a small number of commissions each year for original paintings. Whether you have a specific bird, botanical, or object in mind — or you’d like a still life featuring your own collected things — I’d love to hear what you’re imagining. Get in touch via the contact page.
About Me
I’m based in Brisbane, Queensland, and have been painting and illustrating professionally for years. My background is in design, which means I think carefully about how a piece will sit in a real space — not just on a white gallery wall. I sell directly through this website, which means you’re buying straight from the artist.
When I’m not in the studio, you’ll probably find me at a market with a takeaway coffee in one hand, scanning the op shop shelves with the other, wondering if that old tin would look good next to a vase of dried proteas.
Let’s Find You the Right Piece
Browse original paintings, limited edition prints, and children’s wall art in the shop or send me a message if you’d like help choosing something for your space.
Whether creating original paintings, prints or repeat patterns for products, I am driven by a desire to make art that feels welcoming, lived in and deeply connected to the spaces you call home right across Australia and beyond.
Collections are held in Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, England, Africa, Taiwan, Japan and the USA.

Testimonials
“
Hi Jess! My husband and I have been hunting for a piece of art for our front entrance of our house for literally YEARS. Our parents gave us money for our wedding (nearly 5 years ago) intended to go towards this and we have just never found something we both love enough for such an important space in our house. We found ‘Nature’s Veil’ online at the Manly Harbour Art Gallery last night and fell in love with it straight away – and this morning we bought it! It is stunning and will look spectacular on our wall – it will be the first thing guests see when they come to our house.
Thank you!!
Sarah (Australia)
Hi, I loved your piece for so many different reasons. I loved all the elements of it and how it’s a reminder to enjoy the little things. I was the one who bought it. I can’t wait to hang it in my house 🙂

I picked up your art yesterday. It’s really beautiful and was exceed my expectation.
I decorated it in the living room. My husband was also happy about getting it.
Your art makes people feel good. It’s amazing. I hope your art is known more in the world. I will recommend you to my colleagues of Singapore:)
